Nigel Harrison. C&G Hort, NC Hort, ND Hort, Cert Ed.

Price Band A

Based between York, Harrogate and Wetherby. North Yorkshire.

Nigel knew from the age of nine that all he wanted to do was garden. He helped on the family allotment and grew fruit, vegetables and cut flowers. Nigel is now better known as BBC Radio Yorks gardening guru, something he has done for the last 15 years.

Nigel went into education teaching horticulture full time first at Moulton College near Northampton before returning to his beloved Yorkshire and Askham Bryan College where he taught full time for 15 years. During his time at Askham Bryan College, Nigel helped the college win three medals at the Chelsea Flower Show plus numerous medals at the Harrogate Shows, Hampton Court and BBC Gardeners World Live.

Nigel left full time education four years ago to set up his own landscaping and garden maintenance business. He is currently Head Gardener at Stockeld Park near Wetherby but also works for several large houses and private clients in the York, Harrogate and Wetherby areas. He still lectures part time for Askham Bryan College, Royal Horticultural Society at Harlow Carr and Thorp Perrow Arboretum near Bedale. He is also a trainer for the UK Skills Landscaping squad and is helping to prepare the UK Team for the next Worldskills competition in Liepzig, Germany in 2013.

Nigel lectures to clubs, groups on virtually anything horticultural as well as his other passion flower photography.

What can Nigel offer you?

He can act as a consultant to come into your garden and advise on all areas of maintenance for the garden over a 12 month period or as necessary. He can also carry out specialist tasks that clients may not feel confident in tackling. eg pruning, or if clients are to busy to do it themselves.

'Garden troubleshooting' if there are problems in your garden Nigel's on site visits could help to rectify any serious concerns,  whether they be above ground or below ground. Nigel lectures in soil management at Askham Bryan College and has a thorough understanding of the subject . Clients can also have one -on -one tuition, an on site masterclass to give staff the skills and confidence to look after their own gardens.

A garden is always evolving and Nigel would be happy to offer advice on how to take your garden to the next level, in terms of its development.

Improvements can be carried out in one go or phased over two or more years to suit the client and their budgets. Plans can be drawn if needed.
